Manzanar War Relocation Center

Manzanar Soul Consoling Tower

A stunning view but with a shocking history. This is Manzanar. People of Japanese descent were forced to leave their home and live in isolated relocation centers like Manzanar. After the Pearl Harbor attack, Japanese Americans/Immigrants residing in U.S. were seen as a threat to the country’s security.

Manzanar Camp Loyalty

In the camp they were asked about their loyalty to US.
Question #27: Are you willing to serve in the armed forces of the United States on combat duty, wherever ordered?

Question #28: Will you swear unqualified allegiance to the United States of America and faithfully defend the United States from any and all attack by foreign or domestic forces, and forswear any form of allegiance to the Japanese Emperor or any other foreign government, power, or organization?

No matter how they answered those questions they were still to live in isolation. Loyal or not…
